Sessions:

Influencing Outside Your Comfort Zone

Do you feel comfortable delivering bad news? Do you look forward to presenting in meetings? Do you enjoy giving feedback? Is it easy for you to speak your mind and be assertive with colleagues and superiors?  If you answered no to any of these questions, this session can help.

What often sets successful people apart is their willingness to do things that most of us fear.  What’s more, we have the false notion that successful people like to do these things, when the truth is that successful people have simply found their own way to do them. This session will help you take the thing you’re most afraid of and make it a proud part of your personal repertoire. You’ll learn:

  • The psychological roadblocks you face when acting outside your comfort zone
  • The most common avoidance strategies
  • How to successfully overcome these barriers and jump start your confidence and courage

How to Grow as a Leader by Acting with Power

This session draws on concepts of psychology and the craft of acting to help you learn the mindsets and behaviors that are necessary to use power well. You are introduced to frameworks to help you understand and address the challenges of using power in your current and future roles. You will then practice applying the content to address a specific personal leadership challenge. We will share observations about the greatest challenges we have faced when dealing with our own power, and provide and receive feedback and coaching from other participants in role-playing scenarios.

In this session, you will:

  • Learn how focusing on others makes you more powerful
  • Discuss frameworks for using your power
  • Practice strategies for playing power up and down

Powerful Impromptu Conversations

This session will focus on how you can influence others through the impromptu conversations that help build relationships in the workplace both in-person and online. Utilizing techniques drawn from improvisational theater, you will practice communication skills that are beneficial for collaboration, mentoring, and career development. The power of being present and listening will be used to help develop comfort with those unplanned conversations that are a part of daily work life. We will also work on how to recover after a challenging communication.

In this session you will:

  • Practice gaining influence through impromptu conversations
  • Give spontaneous feedback
  • Learn how to focus on the present moment to connect with your audience and stop rumination or negative self-talk
  • Practice techniques for recovering quickly after a challenging communication
